Did you know that FEMA is providing financial assistance for COVID-19 related funeral expenses? To be eligible for this assistance, you must meet the following criteria:
The applicant must be a U.S. citizen, non-citizen national, or qualified alien who incurred funeral expenses on or after January 20, 2020.
The death must have occurred in the U.S., but the deceased person does not have to be a U.S. citizen, non-citizen national, or qualified alien.
The death certificate must attribute the death to COVID-19.
The applicant may receive a maximum of $9,000 per deceased individual. Expenses that qualify for reimbursement may include a marker or headstone, clergy/officiant services, the use of funeral home equipment/staff, a burial plot or cremation niche, cremation or internment costs, and the transfer of remains.
You must call FEMA to apply for this assistance. Be prepared with personal and contact information for both the applicant and the deceased person(s), as well as documentation and receipts for the funeral expenses incurred.
